2025-2026 in Review

DIVISION OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

A look back at the platforms, infrastructure, and programs the Division of Information Technology stood up over the past year, and where each one stands today.

Coverage period: February 2025 to September 2026  |  Prepared for: DoIT Leadership Review  |  Prepared by: Web and Digital Services

Overview

Over the course of 2025/2026, the Division of Information Technology moved on multiple fronts : replacing the campus digital front door for students, retiring analog phone infrastructure in favor of cloud voice, hardening the university security posture, and laying the physical and academic groundwork for an institution-wide AI strategy. Taken together, these initiatives touch nearly every constituency DoIT serves: students, faculty, staff, and the surrounding region.

2025-2026 Timeline

AUGUST 2026

Digital AI Ecosystem

Hampton opened the Digital Artificial Intelligence Immersive Experience, D-AIX, on August 18, 2026, the first physical space in a broader, university-wide AI ecosystem strategy led by President Darrell K. Williams. It is paired with two initiatives still ahead: the Hampton Artificial Intelligence and Technology Center, planned for the Student Center, and a regional AI and Advanced Technologies Center of Excellence (its own entry below).

  • D-AIX: immersive AI facility, opened August 18, 2026
  • HTAC: planned home in the Student Center
  • B.S. in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
  • AI Development Foundations Certification (non-degree)

AUGUST 2026

AI and Advanced Technologies Center of Excellence

Alongside D-AIX and HTAC, Hampton university-wide AI ecosystem strategy includes a third planned space: the AI and Advanced Technologies Center of Excellence, positioned to support the region and state as a hub for digital learning.

Where D-AIX emphasizes hands-on workforce readiness and HTAC targets everyday student academic life, the Center of Excellence is aimed at a broader regional and institutional audience. No opening date, location, or funding details have been published yet.

MAY 2026

2026-27 New Student Technology Guide

DoIT published its refreshed technology quick-reference guide for incoming students, consolidating account setup, Wi-Fi, Canvas, email, and support-desk information ahead of the next academic year.

SPRING 2026

Enhanced Web and Digital Services

Alongside the larger platform rollouts, Web and Digital Services continued its core mandate: building and maintaining official Hampton University websites, developing in-house registration and survey forms, training departmental editors to manage their own sites, and fielding web-maintenance requests through the DoIT ticketing system.

JANUARY 2026

VOIP - Campus voice modernization

DoIT began retiring legacy analog phone lines campus-wide in favor of RingCentral, a cloud-based VoIP platform, paired with PolyEdge E220 desk phones. The move is framed as modernizing campus communication infrastructure rather than a like-for-like swap: cloud voice brings mobility, easier moves, adds, and changes, and lower long-term maintenance than the analog plant it replaces.

OCTOBER 2025

Cybersecurity Awareness

DoIT ran its annual Cybersecurity Awareness Month campaign, requiring all faculty and staff to complete security-awareness training, with enrollment emails sent under the subject line You have been enrolled in security awareness training and a November 1 completion deadline. The campaign reinforced DoIT standing incident-reporting posture, See something, say something, alongside its safe-computing guidance and phishing-tip resources.

SEPTEMBER 2025

HamptonU Experience Launch

DoIT retired the myCampus Student Portal and unveiled HamptonU Experience, a Hampton-branded build of Ellucian Experience, as the new digital front door for the university. It is a single sign-on hub for Canvas, email, financial aid, and campus services, with a personalized, drag-and-drop dashboard, real-time deadline notifications, and native iOS and Android apps.

DoIT described it as a transformative initiative, the first time students, faculty, and staff have had one consolidated entry point instead of separate logins scattered across systems.

FEBRUARY 2025

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) enabled (Live)

DoIT enabled mandatory multi-factor authentication (MFA) for all Hampton University faculty, using Microsoft Authenticator to add a time-based one-time passcode (TOTP) alongside each account password at sign-in; staff accounts had already been enabled ahead of the faculty rollout on February 24, 2025.

DoIT backed the transition with Canvas-hosted setup tutorials and two live Zoom help sessions, plus ongoing support through the DoIT HelpDesk.

FEBRUARY 2025

Docusign Adoption

DoIT rolled out DocuSign, a cloud-based electronic signature platform, to all Hampton University faculty and staff under the university Enterprise account. It lets users create, send, sign, and track documents online, covering legal agreements, requisitions, applications, and more.

DoIT backed the rollout with live training sessions and ongoing support through the DoIT HelpDesk.

Looking ahead

Two initiatives from this year carry directly into the next: the VoIP rollout still has buildings left to cut over, and HTAC and the AI Center of Excellence are the next physical milestones in the AI ecosystem strategy. Both are natural anchors for next year review.
