Find the support that fits you

Whether you are arriving to study, joining the faculty, hiring an international employee, or heading abroad, the International Office is your starting point for immigration and global education questions.

We are Hampton University’s representative to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the Department of State, and the Department of Labor for hosting and hiring international students and scholars.

Students

International students

F-1 degree students and J-1 exchange students: admission, I-20 and DS-2019 documents, arrival, and maintaining status.

Faculty & scholars

Faculty, staff & researchers

H-1B, J-1 scholar, EB-2, TN, E-3, and O-1 options for international employees and visitors.

Departments

Hiring departments

Hiring someone who is not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident? Start six months before the planned start date.

HU students

Study abroad

Study, intern, and teach abroad programs, faculty-led trips, and funding for Hampton students.

New guidance

H-1B for faculty and staff

Hampton University is an institution of higher education, so its H-1B petitions are cap-exempt: no lottery, and petitions can be filed year-round. The process still takes months and involves the Department of Labor and USCIS.

Planning a hire or a new arrival?

Contact us as early as possible. H-1B and J-1 cases need several months of lead time, and every case starts with a conversation about the right visa category.
