Commend a staff member
If a member of our staff was especially courteous, helpful, or skilled, let us know. For an officer, include their name and badge number if you can.
- Contact any supervisor in person or by phone at Police Headquarters.
- Write to the staff member, their supervisor, or Chief Alfred S. Chandler Jr. at Hampton University Police Department, 607 Cemetery Road, Hampton, VA 23668.

Filing a complaint
It is important that the Hampton University community have confidence in its police department. These procedures resolve allegations of misconduct involving members of the department.
- For minor issues, call 757.727.5300 and ask the employee’s supervisor to call you back.
- For more serious concerns, complete the Citizen Complaint Form. Someone from the Office of the Chief of Police will contact you. You can also file in person at the Office of the Chief or get a form from any supervisor.
- Once a formal complaint is opened, you’ll receive a copy, and you’ll be notified in writing of the results after a full investigation.
